AMCU established a working group to study the market situation of grain storage
Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has established a working group to study the situation in the market grain storage. This was stated by the Acting Chairman of AMC Alexander Melnichenko yesterday during a public hearing on the committee for resolving the problems of grain markets and services for its storage.
First of all, the working group will examine the activities of elevators.
According to Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, Viktor Boyko, the main problem with the elevators is their non-tariff policy. He noted that the price of admission, drying and shipment of grain varies greatly even in one area. For example, in the Sumy region cost of drying grain is from 8,50 UAH. up to 10 UAH. per ton, while in other areas - from 23 UAH. up to 32 UAH. The highest cost of storing grain in elevators Likhachevsky Kharkiv Oblast - 43 UAH. per ton of grain.
According to the AMC, 226 of the 700 silos included in contracts with the owners of grain point of possible improvements in the amount of payment for the storage of grain on the expiration of the service. In some cases, such actions zernoskladov led to unnecessary increase in cost of services for the storage of grain in the 2-3 and even 5 times.

Thus, the grain depots can increase the cost of storing grain at an average of 50%. In doing so, elevators do not provide justification for an increase in the price or cost, but simply refer to the paragraph in the contract. Price abuses in the market of grain warehouses contributed to the lack of a mechanism for calculating the tariffs for them.
