Vladimir Putin has authorized the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill to resume production
Government of Russia has withdrawn a ban on the production of pulp, paper, cardboard and products from them without the use of drainage water management systems, which operated in the central ecological zone of Baikal natural territory. Thus, the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill will be able to resume their work.

In October 2008, work was stopped by CBK on demand Rosprirodnadzor obligated to move to combine closed loop spillway. In autumn 2009 the company introduced a procedure of observation, but in early 2010 BPPM resumed production.
In connection with the decision of the Government authorizing the work of polluting factories, environmentalists asked the president of Russia with a demand to cancel the order number 1.
"We are confident that this decision was in favor of short-term interests of the owners BPPM" - said in a letter to Greenpeace Russia Dmitry Medvedev. "We urge you to direct the efforts of state for real projects on alternative socio-economic development of Baikalsk, for which all conditions", - reads the text of the letter.
